Overall Crave Factor

With
the world longing for a new action hero we've seen countless movies
in the last little while attempting to produce what we are all
craving. Vin Diesel has been able to put his mark on the action
genre along with others like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson
also trying to break onto the scene. Enter Jason Statham, a British
actor who’s fairly new to the scene and has co-starred along side
some of today’s most popular stars. Most recently he’s been in Snatch
and The One.
In
his first starring role, Statham is Frank Martin, The Transporter.
An ex-military agent who delivers packages, no questions asked, for
anyone with the right amount of cash. He’s a die-hard, live by the
rules type of man until one delivery goes wrong and all the
“rules” go out the window.
During
this particular delivery Frank blows out a tire and pulls over to
change it. When he opens the trunk to find the spare he realizes
that there is a person in the package. Being the nice guy that he
is, he buys a drink at a rest stop for whoever is in the duffel bag.
When he opens the bag, he finds a beautiful girl, Lai (Shu Qi). This
is where the movie falls apart.
At
this point you would expect to be cast into a complicated
edge-of-your-seat storyline. Unfortunately, this is one of those
movies that while looking for the storyline they accidentally
bypassed it. That’s no big deal, though, to any true action junky.
The action/fighting sequences make up for this minor detail.
There
are some pretty unique fight sequences in this movie that will get
your adrenaline pumping. The opening car chase scene is outstanding.
The dialog is fairly sharp-witted and delivered quite well by the
cast, except maybe Qi who is hard to understand at times.
Overall,
if you’re looking for a flick to kill an hour and a half some
afternoon or evening The Transporter is it. I’d say Jason
Statham has made his mark and, hopefully, we’ll see a lot more of
him.
