Angelina Jolie + Lara Croft = Tomb Raider the Movie
Need I say more? Well, for those of you who do need a little more here is what I thought of the
movie.
Now, before I
actually get to the review there were 5 of us “Tomb Raider” fans that all
piled into Mitch’s (www.houseofhelp.com)
ride for a short road trip to the nearest Silver City (Our theatres
suck…mono only). We bought our tickets 6 days in advance to ensure that we
could get seats. You can read all about the trip once Jim over at www.2cpu.com
finishes it.
If you’re going
into this movie expecting an “Indiana Jones”-esque movie, maybe you should
stop, turn around, and go home. Tomb Raider is not exactly that type of movie.
Sure she raids tombs and is regaled for her talents worldwide, but that is
really the only comparison you can make other than both having a bad guy to
contend with.
High-tech special
effects along with humongous sets bring this game-based movie to life.
Angelina performs many of her own stunts in this film, which keeps the partial
realism needed for the intended effect. One of my favorite scenes is the
bungee scene and, believe it or not, that is ALL Jolie. I personally don’t
think they could have chosen someone better to play the role of Lara. Angelina
Jolie is amazing as the Tomb Raider. There is nothing I like better than
seeing a tough woman who can take a beating and then come back to dish one
out. You’ll get to see this in spades during the final fight sequence if you
go to see this movie.
The writer and
director were so determined to include a 'real' story for Tomb Raider that
they skipped by it unknowingly. There are too many peaks and valleys
throughout to keep you enticed. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy this film
for what it was. I would expect that if they decided to make a sequel, they
would do a much better job. Trying to pack a 4-hour movie into 1-½ hours just
doesn’t work. This has been the fault of many movies that could have shone in the limelight. It’s almost like the movie is just starting to begin
when the credits start to role.
I’ve heard both sides of the coin on this one. Out of
the five of us that went we’d say that it’s more of an equal like-dislike
type of balance. If you want to see it then go. But don’t have high
expectations. Otherwise, you’ll be let down.
