What would possess
anyone to return to a deadly island littered with dinosaurs? How about a big
wad of cash and the opportunity to rescue a missing child? Jurassic Park III
takes us back to Isla Sorna, the home of Site-B, to experience man-eating
dinosaurs once again.
Sam Neill reprises
his role from the first Jurassic Park as Dr. Alan Grant. He must once again
lead a group of people to safety from the many looming dangers on this
secluded island. We only see one other familiar face from previous Jurassic
Park films and that is the face of Dr. Ellie Sattler. William
H. Macy and Téa Leoni star as the missing boy’s divorced parents that must
set aside their differences in order to save their son, played by Trevor
Morgan.
I enjoyed this
film, but I left the theatre feeling like something was missing. I don’t
know exactly what it was, but it didn’t grab me the same way The Fast and
the Furious or The Mummy Returns did (both released by Universal).
Perhaps it could be the lack of a climax. Jurassic Park III starts out action
packed and just continues on from there with only a short sequence without
action. But it never really brings you to the climatic peak you’re waiting
for.

There are way more
dinosaurs in the third film than there were in the previous two movies and a
lot more violence, perhaps due to the new dinosaur, that’s bigger and
stronger than T-Rex, or the intelligent Velociraptors. Of course, there is
always that one person who must tick the dinosaurs off so that they have some
reason for them to chase and kill. This movie is not without this idiot
either.
If you loved the
first two I recommend going to the theatre to see Jurassic Park. If you
didn’t like the second one but enjoyed the first one then go see the 3rd - it won’t be as disappointing.
So, here is the verdict. It’s an enjoyable film that
is entertaining enough to kill nearly 2 hours in the theatre without notice,
but don’t expect any great film making masterpiece.
