The Fast and the Furious

Studio: Universal
Starring: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker
Directed by: Rob Cohen
Rating:

If you like speed you’ll like this movie. What an adrenaline rush. When you leave the theatre you’re going to want to jump into your car and drive off like a maniac. The director, Rob Cohen, brings to the big screen a new and innovative way of illustrating speed. Cohen is the director who brought us other favorites such as The Skulls, Dragonheart, and Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story.

I don’t know about you, but I wanted to run out and buy myself a suped up Honda 2000, the great big spoiler, NOS, standard transmission, removable roof, and high-powered chrome engine. Let’s not forgot the wicked paint job. I read somewhere that actor Paul Walker did just that!

Vin Diesel (Domenic Toretto) has such a strong screen presence that you’re in awe from the moment he steps onto the screen. He carries with him a manner of strength and control. With a strong chiseled build, Diesel’s character commands a team of street racers who are suspected of hijacking 18-wheelers for their cargo. As one of the quickest rising stars in Hollywood, Diesel  proves his acting ability time and again whether playing a villain or a hero. Even though in most of his movies he plays the villain you can’t help but root for him. I look forward to seeing more of Vin.

Paul Walker (Brian Spindler) plays an undercover rookie cop trying to infiltrate the street racing world. Walker definitely had the look, but he just doesn’t quite have the attitude for such a role. After seeing him in Meet the Deedles playing a surfer ‘dude’ he just always seems to have that feel about him. There is even a line in the movie that completely reminds me of Meet the Deedles.

There are also some very attractive female co-stars in this film. Michelle Rodriguez (Girlfight) plays Dom’s hotrod girlfriend. Not only is she into cars she’s also into speed. Jordana Brewster stars as Toretto’s younger sister who stays more on the right side of the law. Her character is also the main interest for the rookie cop, Brian Spindler.

With first-rate effects and a strong soundtrack The Fast and the Furious is a fast paced, high-octane action thriller. This movie was truly a rush. I certainly came out of it with an adrenaline high. The next day after seeing this movie I wanted to see it again. Without question, I will be getting this movie on DVD when it gets released. Of course, not everyone is going to like this movie. It reminds me of Speed, you get a great rush, but it doesn’t have a fantastic storyline.
